Most people know exactly when they need a lawyer: when they get sued or arrested or charged with a crime. Many people hope to go through their lives without ever having to deal with one. But there are plenty of people who seek out lawyers all of the time, for advice or guidance. And there is a third category of people that need a lawyer, not because they are in trouble, but because an attorney is required for a business transaction or another administrative process. This is the reason that most people are interested in hiring a Panamanian lawyer.
The three biggest draws to Panama right now are the booming real estate market, the excellent banking facilities and the protections afforded to people who are looking to create offshore corporations. For all three of these things, Panamanian law requires that they are done through a lawyer. Real estate transactions in Panama must have a lawyer sign off on due diligence, making sure that the land is free from any encumbrances and has a clear title. Research on previous land owners and on various liens or debts is taken care of by a licensed Panamanian lawyer. To complete a land sale, the papers must be signed by a lawyer. It is the same for buying a condo or apartment. In these cases, your real estate agent may have a lawyer or law firm that he or she prefers to deal with. If they don’t, the best way to find a real estate lawyer is to talk to friends, acquaintances or other foreigners investing in Panama and asking them who they trust and who they have used in the past. Banking in Panama is a booming business. Not only because of the location between the United States and Central America and the whole of South America, but also because of the canal and the international shipping business. Opening a bank account in Panama allows you to maintain an account here and is required for most businesses and business transactions. When you purchase a piece of property here, the bank will require you to open a Panamanian bank account to pay for the property or pay off the mortgage. Lawyers in Panama can assist you in opening a bank account, a process that takes less than a week if you are here in Panama. It does require that you visit to have a personal interview with the bank. Creating an offshore corporation in Panama has become an increasingly popular form of asset protection. Panama’s secrecy laws are some of the best in the world, allowing you to create a modern day form of the Swiss numbered account. A Panamanian lawyer is required to form the corporation and most can be done for around $1200. If you are looking for a lawyer in Panama, ask around. Your welfare is their number one priority, so ask friends or people you trust down here who to talk to and where to go. Most large firms have English speaking attorneys, but you are more likely to find more personalized service at one of the smaller firms. Most people who come down to purchase real estate will need a lawyer for all three of these processes, so it is important that you have someone you can trust and who is working with you. The best lawyers don’t want to just see you once, they want your repeat business. Ask a lawyer you have been put in contact with if they can offer you deals on multiple legal transactions or if they have a package for real estate purchases. He and the law firm he works with made way for less headaches and freed up so much of my time to concentrate on what I really came down for. Great bunch of people!

 written by maggijon , August 21, 2009 Begin your search for a property, check newspapers, classified sites and compare different agent’s properties and the prices of similar properties. Visit the property and surrounding areas and make sure that you are comfortable with the location. A property can be listed with multiple agents so do a bit of research and see if you can find the property listed at a lower price or by the owner.
