A client just bought a new dress and I suggested she find a nice necklace and earrings to match. It's a wrap dress from Diane Von Furstenberg -- beautiful, but a little plain to me. I suggested she try a sautoir, one of those long necklaces that Coco Chanel used to wear in the in the 1920's. But, after searching in a bunch of different stores, the only necklaces I could find were either very beautiful (but VERY expensive) or so cheap that everybody could tell. I decided to post a thread on my favorite networking website and a very nice man replied to me saying he knew someone who could help me. Thank God, Buddha or whomever: as long as this person can save me and make my client happy. The next day I called her and I had an appointment for two days later. My savior is Zuby Tawachi, a psychologist-turned-jewelry designer who owns and runs Byzu, a jewelry boutique in Punto Paitilla, Panama. Zuby grew up playing with her mom's jewelry, and taught herself the jewelry trade by looking at books, magazines, and trying different metal techniques for hours and hours in her studio. A year ago she decided to give up psychotherapy and start a career in what she loves. Zuby travels the world to find the perfect stones. Sometimes she promises herself not to buy anything, but she can't help it. She always comes back with a bag or two full of different materials. Her collection is made of silver, gold (gold-plated, not pure gold), and semi-precious stones. Her prices range from $30 to $200. When you visit her in her workshop she has a collection ready to buy, or you can order custom-made pieces. Everything comes with is a lifetime guarantee and high quality service. It was a pleasure to sit with her and discuss the colors, the stones and various designs as you can tell this is really her passion. I found the necklace I needed and I ordered a set of matching earrings which would be ready the next day. Thank you, Zuby. |
