When I tell my friends and family at home that some of the nicest places I have been or nicest things I have done have been in Panama, they give me the typical “Really???” And I can say without a doubt, one of the nicest shopping malls I have ever been to was in Panama City. Whether you are looking for extremely inexpensive clothing, jewelry, electronics, house and kitchen accessories, etc. or high-end boutique imports you can find them all within Panama.
I have tried to keep my selections limited to the ones that are worth going to, for there is A LOT of shopping that can be done in Panama. Nicest: MULTIPLAZA As my boy Borat would say, Multiplaza is “Niiiiice.” · Punta Pacífica, Panamá City · Multiplaza doesn't have your ordinary “you are here” map where you are constantly trying to figure out where 14C is. The maps are computerized and interactive where the “you are here” sign blinks as well as your destination and shows a path with the easiest route. The food court has a nice playground for the kiddies and the mall in general is very well kept. There is plenty of parking, taxis waiting for your service outside, and buses that go to and from the mall often. High-end: MULTIPLAZA So you think you have money, eh. · Punta Pacífica, Panamá City · Stores like Xara, Diesel, Miss Sixty, Guess, Colombia, and other high-end name brands all have individual stores here. Pedestrian shopping: AVENIDA CENTRAL A lot of walking, bargaining, and watching your back pocket. · On Via Espana, right next to Casco Viejo · Avenida Central is an open-air market where anything and everything is being sold. You will be able to find shoes and tanktops for $1.99, jeans for around $5, and very inexpensive jewelry. There are a lot of people and they are rude and ruthless. I would get the heck out of there before 6pm and be in constant watch of your belongings. Also, don't wear anything nice to show off that you have money because the prices will all of sudden change just for you! Boutique-y: MULTICENTRO You want a shirt that no one has, because it really, like, bothers you when someone does. · Avenida Balboa, beside Bennigan's · Multicentro is full of boutique Colombian stores. Each store doesn't have a lot in them and they are moderate to high priced. And of course the good thing about boutique stores is that they are one of a kind! Something besides clothing stores: EL DORADO You can tell your girlfriend that you want to go shopping here while secretly knowing there aren't that many clothing stores. · Tumba Muerto · El Dorado has a lot of cheap electronic shops and few clothing stores. Restaurant and cinemas: MULTICENTRO A girl's ideal place: shopping, dinner, and a movie. · Avenida Balboa, beside Bennigan's · Multicentro has it all: great shopping, an extremely nice movie theatre, quality restaurants, and a casino. You could easily spend a whole day here. Nice and affordable: ALBROOK · Marcos A Gelabert Airport and the central bus station (El Gran Terminal) on Avenida Marginal in Panama City · Albrook has inexpensive stores in a nice mall. There are about 4 major department stores that sell decent quality things at very good prices. There are a very few stores that are slightly more expensive. But Albrook is a definitely a good choice for fashionable home décor, clothing, shoes with good prices. Overall: MULTIPLAZA · Punta Pacífica, Panamá City · Mutliplaza is where it's at. They have a variety of great stores, a movie theater, a playground, a huge food court with lots of seating, good restaurants, plenty of parking, an extremely useful, advanced map in a great neighborhood.
