The Hotel Milan in El Cangrejo is definitely on the McDonald´s value meal of hotels in Panama City. The rooms go for $25/night and are very decent, with one large bed, new bathroom with hot water, and your own personal ice bin.
The location is great, as it´s close enough to large-scale attractions like the casinos and restaurants, yet quiet enough to get your beauty sleep. They have a small breakfast lounge and free internet for anyone who´s using the hotel (or anyone who is sneaky enough to look like they are using the hotel, but actually just want free internet). There´s also cable TV and A/C in all rooms. You can almost always get reservations, save the week of Carnival when everyone wants a place to stay. Within one block of the hotel are two of my favorite places, Istmo Brew Pub and Machu Pichu restaurant. Just around two corners is Via Argentina, a great buzzing street with cafes and shops. A $2 cab ride will get you just about anywhere in Panama City that you want to go. Near Hotel Milan are Hotel Grenada and Parador, both of which I think pale in comparison. If you´re looking for a nice, cheap place to stay in the city, I´d say stay here. They´re not paying me to say that either. It´s simply a great bargain. Hotel Milan Calle Eusebio A.
