This is a new restaurant to Panama City, having already existed for about 2 years in Coronado beach. The owner, a Costa Rican native, believes that food--both the inexpensive and high-end---should be affordable and made with love. They offer two menus: a lunchtime menu consisting of combo platters for $5 as well as a lunch/dinner menu with more elaborate dishes like the one I had: Seared Ahi Tuna with roasted potatoes (called papas salteadas). My appetizer was this terrifically spicy dishlet of shrimp served in a piping hot tapas-style bowl. Other impressive dishes were the aranitas (literally translated as little spiders) which is fried calamari. The salads were impressively fresh for Panama and the lemonade served alongside everything was almost supernaturally sweet. They have happy hours every day around 5 or 6 when you can get tropical drinks and beers for sub-legal prices. Regarding service, when I went, I was the only one where which makes things tough to screw up so I can't really vouch for how the restaurant operates on a full night. Their long list of tapas though, will undoubtedly get you through the night. Go check this place out: it's surprisingly innovative food. A Toda Vela Calle 47, Bella Vista, behind the Contraloria |
