It's a one-stop shop, much like the “Chinitos” on every block in Panama. If you have been reading the wonderful blogs and reviews written on this fantastic site, you know you want to come to Panama. (Nudge, nudge). Panama is the bomb, come visit. Stay in a hostel. All of my “Best of:” articles are just in Panama City, and there are many hostels outside of the city. But since Panama City is the s***, and it's what I know best, I stick to it.

Safe: ZULY'S INDEPENDENT BACKPACKERS

Who wants weirdos luring around aimlessly outside of a place where you are going to sleep and dream about visiting the canal the next day as well as put down your newly made mola?

Location: Calle Ricardo Arias 8 between Hotel Continental and Hotel Marriott

 Dorm- $6.30

Zuly's is located in a very nice neighborhood. It borders the banking district and is surrounded by well-known hotels (i.e. Hotel Continental and Hotel Marriott) as well as within walking distances from stores like Nautica and Lacoste.

Cheap: ZULY'S INDEPENDENT BACKPACKERS

The whole point of you wanting to stay in a hostel is because it's cheap. So let's go for cheap-cheap.

Location: Calle Ricardo Arias 8 between Hotel Continental and Hotel Marriott

 Dorm- $6.30

$6.30. Six dollars and thirty cents.

Location: ANITA'S INN

Umm... because you don't want to crash in Chorrillo

Location: El Cangrejo district, near Restaurante El Trapiche, Building Anita, ground floor

 Dorm & Private- $12.23

Location is a combination of both safety and sweet surroundings. El Cangrejo is a safe neighborhood. Anita's is located very close to a main street called Via Argentina where you can find restaurants from Italian to Panamanian, American to French, pharmacies, bars, a park, tropical birds chirping, banks, internet cafes, cafes, mini-markets, clothing stores, and more. Anita's is also about a 15 minute walk to the Veneto and Fiesta Casino.

Fun: SEASOL BEACH

Talking from personal experience, some of the best times I have had have been drinking in my apartment with friends

 Location: Coronado

 Dorm & Private- $10.00

Seasol Beach is located outside of Panama City in a beautiful beach town called Coronado. They rent out surfboards, bikes, and kayaks, is a five minute walk from the beach, has a golf club nearby, BBQ, a garden, and is close to some bars. After you throw back a few from the BBQ you had the night before you can wake up the next morning with a hot shower and free breakfast!

Clean: HOSPEDAJE CASCO VIEJO

For the reason that when you see stains on things, insects crawling around, or mold growing, you kinda get grossed out

Location: C/ 8a con Avenida A. Casa 8-31, San Felipe

 Dorm- $7.00, Private- $10.00

You can put your head down at night, bathe yourself and use the towels after, sit on the toilet, and walk barefoot without thinking twice. And you can say you stayed in a mansion!

Amenities: MAMALLENA BACKPACKERS

I am a fan of free little shampoo bottles.

Location: Via Espaa, Edificio Manuel Maria Icaza 7

 Dorm-$10.00

Free continental breakfast, laundry, airport pickup, linens, bar, guest kitchen, 24 hour reception and check in, TV lounge, travel desk/travel info, common room, free Internet access with WIFI in the lobby, gym, air conditioning in every room, extremely comfortable beds, and hot water showers. It has a gym for gosh sakes.

Overall: ZULY'S INDEPENDENT BACKPACKERS

Wouldn't a safe, cheap, fun, clean, hostel in a great location that might give you something for free be nice? I thought so too.

Location: Calle Ricardo Arias 8 between Hotel Continental and Hotel Marriott

 Dorm-$6.30

Zuly's is $6.30 a night, includes linens, security lockers, luggage storage, guest kitchen, 24 hour reception and check-in, coin laundry, long term stay (up to 20 days), free coffee, common room with cable TV, no curfew, no lockout, located in a great safe neighborhood within walking distance to discotheques, bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, a students travel agency, and cinemas.

Stu: Terrible.
I just got back from Panama, and spent my first night at Zuly's. I have to say, this place is the filthiest sty I have ever seen in my life. I've stayed in tons of hostels all over, but this was the bottom rung of the ladder. To be fair, Zuly seemed nice, at least at first, until the morning after our first night when she kicked us out, despite us having reservations for one more night. When presented with our printout, she just said other people were staying over (and by the way, the people who were staying here were, without exception, some of the most disgustingly dirty people I have ever met, no lie. The most unwashed of the already unwashed hippie masses). Luckily, I had already made reservations at Luna's Castle (which is great) for the night, so I didn't care, and would rather sleep in the street than stay in Zuly's again (not sure which would have been cleaner) anyway.
Long story short, unless you are just a dirt-poor loser who likes smelling bad and traveling just to sit around in a dingy hostel all day reading about where you want to go next to sit around dirty hostels and read, stay somewhere else. This place is trash. Go somewhere else.
