Disclosure Policy
Here at The Panama Report we believe in transparency. That's why, when it
comes to talking about travel and investing, we think it's important that you
know exactly where we're coming from. With this in mind, we have developed the
following disclosure policy to guide our employees and to give you, the reader,
an idea of where you've arrived. We invite you to take some time to read this and
hope it enhances your experience.
Connecting With Travelers and Investors
We believe that the most effective way to accrue information is through
experience and interaction in the field.
Many travel guides are composed of information gleaned from a gamut of
sources, whereas our travel articles are all written originally and first-hand.
Many real estate websites would post nothing but the positive facets of
investment in the Republic, whereas our content is 100% candid; both positive
and negative without any spins. Our articles are based on our own (or in some
cases our trusted friends') opinions and there is nothing (that we can think
of) on this site which we wouldn't personally advise to a friend or family
member.
More
importantly, we don't consider ourselves to be journalists, but rather
communicators of information. We are not a news source. It's a subtle yet
critical difference that affects our entire reputation. As a resource, we try
to utilize humor, sarcasm, and sincerity to teach people of all backgrounds about
the country of Panama
which we love so dearly. We try to do this in a light, friendly, and
easy-on-the-brain manner. In not taking ourselves too seriously, we attempt to
construct a casual research environment and networking tool.
Our Partners
We have personal relationships with an ever-changing assortment of hotels,
restaurants, tour companies and banks in Panama. Companies
and people we simply refer readers to when the request arises. Many of these trustworthy
companies are public enterprises operating in industries that we follow closely
so it only makes sense that we have come to befriend them on a regular basis. We
do NOT receive referral commissions for these recommendations or referrals. When it comes to real estate and vacations, we refer clients to one selected agency (in each field) and we DO receive a referral fee in this case.
As a general rule, if you see banner advertisements or static outbound links
on our site, it is representing a paid advertiser or a company which we feel is doing something special. These do not
include the random placement of Google Adsense
links which you will find scattered throughout the site (marked clearly). If you enjoy the site, explore these ads as they provide funding for our service.
So How Do We Make Money?
Good question. In order to provide the best information to the public, we need to make a dime. There are no free lunches. The income from this website is generated through ad clicks and eBook sales. We also sell advertisements to local businesses in Panama which you can find in the form of graphic banners and occasional advertorials (clearly indicated). If you feel like making a contribution to the site, which no one ever has (but we figured we'd throw it out there), you can do that too.
Summed up...
We have designed our disclosure to serve the community in a fair way. You won't find any advertisement articles
masked as content nor will you find an overwhelming amount of
ads. What you will find is a lot of good (and some not so good) information
about travel, investing, and living in Panama from the honest perspective of a
foreigner.
As always, remember to consider every piece of information you receive here
at The Panama Report or elsewhere on Panama websites, not as a de
facto recommendation, but as ideas for further consideration. Even the
strongest disclosure policy in the world does not excuse individuals from
taking responsibility for their own decisions, especially when it comes to a
once-in-a-lifetime vacation or large-scale real estate investment. Due
diligence, critical thought, and use of the most extraordinary device in the
world (the human brain) are those which are crucial to your success.
Disclosure on our disclosure: Much of this literature was adapted directly from a site we admire very much, Fool.com. What Motley Fool has done in the Stock Industry, we aspire to recreate in our field.
