Last night I hit up this bit of Panama nightlife for a friend's birthday party. It sort of reminded me of a place mobsters would hang out...in a good way. I went in through the entrance on Via Argentina and then was told that the party was in “the back”—--another subtle mafia prompt.

As I walked out the back of the restaurant, through a dark parking area and out onto the parallel street behind, I entered through the door. Two doors in fact: one inside the other. The bar itself was nice enough: heavy oak colors, bright red cushions, and lots of smiling partiers. There was a band playing in a secluded little nook of the restaurant and all the sound was blocked by the wall in front of them. I ordered two beers and threw down a $5 bill, only to find that each draft beer is $2.75: where do you think we are, charging $2.75 for a beer? The USA?

Anyways, the Spanish tapas and olives were solid, however, unless my friend Jessica is having her next birthday party there, I don't think I'll go back. Well, maybe.
