Real estate and humanitarianism, two worlds that once collided ruthlessly on a moral scale are now showing signs of harmony in Central America's boom-nation of Panama, where the trickle down effect of development is being defined in remarkable new ways. It's long been a notorious business real estate, one characterized by a slash-and-burn mentality: by money-grubbing land developers and cutthroat super agents who'd do anything, and that meant anything, to make a sale.

Panama offers some incredible investment opportunities for the developer wanting a large piece of land to construct a resort or for the individual just looking for a piece of paradise to construct a little shangri la. With an abundance of natural beauty, panama is as diverse as its people and birds, with two oceans, miles of beaches, cool fresh highlands, panama has always been the "puente del mundo, corazon del universo", meaning "bridge of the world, heart of the Universe".

I recently bought one of the fancier models of electric toothbrushes, the Sonicare e5000: one which the salesperson, a squat woman with suspiciously bad teeth, told me was the top of the line. In line at the store, I was in front of a young man who only had enough money to buy a regular old-fashioned toothbrush. I pittied him. My first week with the brush was like heaven—my mouth never felt so clean. Soon thereafter though, my honeymoon ended when I found out that a newer model had been released, the e9000, with twice the scrubbing-power being sold at nearly half the price. I had been duped.
