The world's newest and most attractive retirement location tries to keep its secret under wraps...

“Go home and tell your friends about it” says Panama retiree Barbara Hayes as she smirks. “Just don't tell them all.”

This seems to be a common sentiment among ex-pats living in Panama today. The country has so much to offer that its retirees almost don't want to share it with anyone! It's hundreds of miles of pristine beaches, eager domestic help, and unusually low taxes are attracting those Americans looking beyond the expensive and over-populated horizons they call home.

After beginning her retirement in Florida, Barbara Hayes hesitantly confesses what she loves so much about living in Panama: “The near-perfect weather is something my husband and I couldn't live without. And with our retiree status, we get discounts on everything from new cars to movie tickets—we're living like royalty in a beautiful freewheeling tropical place that's like home, but better!”

Hayes isn't alone here. More than 15,000 Americans already live in Panama and the number is growing rapidly. To many of the country's ex-pats, Panama City—with its tall sky scrapers, gourmet restaurants, and luxurious hotels—reminds them of home too. Just Better! As real estate prices in other retirement destinations are sky rocketing, Americans in Panama are lying low.
